About Fort Collins, Colorado
Located in the mountains north of Denver, Fort Collins started as trading post where Native Americans and traders met to trade goods and services. Since then, it has grown to house a large college and the nightlife, restaurants and culture that accompany the college life.
Visitors should pack appropriately, preparing for hot summers ranging from 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit and cold winters, with temperatures ranging from 16-20 degrees. Also, take into consideration the activities you plan to take part in. You don't want to forget your coat if you're going skiing and white water rafting without a swim suit just doesn't work.
Thing to Do Outside
In Fort Collins and in the Fort Collins area are dozens of adventure-style and family-friendly activities that are adaptable for every group of people, no matter their age. For instance, individuals interested in adventure-style experiences can go white water rafting down the Colorado River with Rocky Mountain Adventures, go hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, swimming and skiing at the Arapaho National Forest or go rock climbing at Poudre Canyon or Horsetooth Reservoir. There are also numerous places to go cycling.
The Swetsville Zoo is a must-see for all visitors to the Fort Collins. Unlike any other zoo, it's actually a set of metal sculptures near the river. The animals and creatures depicted include the Star Wars Speedsters, dragons, chimes, the Toy Story slinky dog, large bugs and dinosaurs.
If you want to see some live animals, stop by the Lee Martinez Park farm. It has a museum, a petting zoo and opportunities to go horseback riding.
The Old Town features a variety of 20th century architecture. In fact, this area inspired Walt Disney to create Disneyland's Main Street.
Things to Do Inside
Whether you need to get out of the sun or you want to experience a different side of the city, there are many things visitors can do inside. For instance, the Fort Collins Museum and Discovery Center has displays featuring the history and geography of the area and information about the native and immigrant communities in the area.
If you're in the mood for dancing, don't miss out on the Salsa dancing above the Rio Grande Mexican restaurant that takes place every Tuesday night from 8-10. If you get there early, you can even take a mini lesson so you don't fall behind.
At the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, you can take a tour of the facilities to learn about the beer brewing process and do a taste test at the end.
