Lying along the nearby banks of Clear Creek, the city of Golden, Colorado sits at the fringes of the Front Range. Founded during the mid 1800s, Golden was first known as a mining camp that was set up at the time of the Pikes Peak Gold Rush. Originally the town was called Golden City in honor of Thomas L. Golden, and as Golden City it was the capital of what was then known as the official Territory of Colorado. Although, in 1867 Denver City became the official capital of what is now the state of Colorado.

From the Colorado School of Mines to the Coors Brewery, Golden, Colorado has plenty to explore indoors. Whether a visitor, student, or new transplant, all should start their exploration of Golden at the Coors Brewery. Here, visitors will tour one of the largest breweries in America, which includes a brief business history, an inside look at the brewing process, and an opportunity to sample Coors products in their hospitality room. Another interesting bit of Golden history can be explored at the Colorado School of Mines. This small university offers programs in engineering and science, as well as featuring the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum. Visitors will be amazed at the extensive collections housed in this museum.

Other great places in Golden, Colorado to see and tour are the Colorado Railroad Museum, the Buffalo Bill Museum and grave site, and the Lookout Mountain Nature Center. As for heading outdoors in this glorious Colorado city, there is an abundance of things to do. Whether it’s getting in a few rounds at the Fossil Trace Golf Course or kayaking down Clear Creek, Golden is a great vacation spot for those wanting a little bit of everything. For the kids, Dinosaur Ridge is the place to visit before leaving Golden, Colorado. This "outdoor museum" is just a few miles south of the city, and it is known all over the world for its dinosaur discoveries. There are many dinosaur fossils and footprints to seek and explore at this museum where learning is made fun. No matter what a trip to Golden, Colorado holds, visitors will find it hard to say goodbye to "Where the West Lives."
