Breckenridge Ski Resort

p_breckenridge_250_266Breckenridge Ski Resort is one of the preeminent ski resorts in Colorado and all of North America, located an easy two-hour drive from Denver. Spanning across four mountains, Breckenridge offers a variety of terrain that is sure to please beginners and experts alike. Pristine snow, royal blue skies, beautiful peaks and a charming, historic mountain town define Breckenridge. With an average annual snowfall of 300 inches and 2031 acres to explore, Breckenridge has something for everyone. Groomers, trees, bumps, chutes and wide-open, steep bowls are all part of the terrain. Read on to find out why Breckenridge ski resort is a perennial favorite of skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts.

Advanced and expert skiers and riders will find themselves at home on the high alpine terrain of Peak 7 and Peak 8. From the top of the Imperial Lift, the highest lift in North America at an elevation of 12,840 feet, the choices are exciting. Hiking the few hundred yards to the summit of Peak 8 is highly recommended. The view from the top is astonishing; Breckenridge and the other Summit County towns are visible, as well as Copper Mountain ski resort to the west, and the amazing peaks of the Ten Mile Range, Mosquito Range and Gore Range. From the top of Peak 8, skiers and riders can descend towards Peak 7, or traverse the ridge in the other direction and access Lake Chutes and Snow White. A traverse to Peak 7 will take visitors to the open bowls of Whale’s Tail, Y-Chutes and the steeps of Art’s Bowl. The Lake Chutes is an area of extreme terrain featuring small cliffs, narrow chutes and some of the steepest terrain on the mountain. Traversing further takes skiers to Snow White, a steep and open bowl at the edge of the ski area. These exciting areas are meant to offer a backcountry experience with the safety of patrolled and maintained terrain.

Fans of glade skiing and riding should make their way to The Burn on the side of Peak 10, or to the Windows, Broadway and Twin Chutes at the upper reaches of Peak 9. The Burn is so named because a fire once passed through the mountainside, leaving a spacing of trees perfectly suited to glade skiing. Fans of mogul and bump skiing should try the variety of black runs below Chair 6 on Peak 8. This area features long and challenging mogul runs, as well as a sense of solitude from the rest of the mountain. Fans of fast and steep groomers will find what they are looking for on Peak 10. Peak 8 and 9 are both home to terrain parks, the former for advanced skiers and riders, the latter tailored for beginners and intermediates. The Freeway Terrain Park on Peak 8 features enormous jumps, as well as one of the largest superpipes in North America.

For beginners, Peak 9 is an ideal place to learn. Featuring more gentle terrain, most of which is groomed, this is a great area for perfecting that turn and building confidence before tackling the more challenging terrain of the mountain.

Breckenridge is also home to summertime activities, including hiking and mountain biking. Centered on Peak 8, mountain biking terrain for beginners through experts is open on the mountain. Hiking opportunities abound throughout the area, and the Main Street and Riverwalk areas of the town are perfect for a summer stroll.

An iconic ski town with fantastic terrain makes Breckenridge a favorite of families and snow sports enthusiasts alike. It is no surprise that Breckenridge regularly ranks as a top North American ski destination.
