Sunlight Mountain Resort is southwest of Glenwood Springs, and is reached by I-70. Here in the northwestern region, the air smells of pine and the elevation is high. Nestled in the Rocky Mountains, Sunlight Mountain Resort was opened in 1966. Its birth as a resort started out meagerly, however today the resort showcases 67 named trails. Covering over 470 acres, Sunlight offers a terrain that suits almost any skier's abilities. On the east ridge, the Heathen is a heart stopping 52 degrees where adventure seekers find this trail to be extremely thrilling.
The resort itself offers visitors a ski school, children's center, snow mobile tours, as well as ski rental and repair. With a variety of winter activities like snow shoeing and snowboarding to horseback riding in the summer, Sunlight Mountain Resort is a great place to visit anytime of the year. Other amenities include a restaurant and lounge to keep visitors fueled for fun. A shuttle runs from Sunlight to Glenwood Springs and back by way of two buses during the weekend and one on weekdays for visitor's convenience.
